Overview
The programme offers eight specialisation options, each with its own entry requirements: analytical chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, biochemistry and soft matter, chemistry education and communication, inorganic chemistry and materials chemistry, nuclear chemistry, organic chemistry, and theoretical and physical chemistry. The master's thesis is carried out within a research environment under supervision, building skills in critically assessing research literature, analysing data, and planning and conducting independent laboratory-based research. Depending on specialisation, research areas include developing new methods for measuring matter, studying how small organic molecules are produced, examining the structure and function of biomolecules, and synthesising and characterising solid compounds in materials chemistry, alongside the didactics of chemistry teaching. A 60-ECTS thesis qualifies graduates for doctoral study in chemistry and related fields such as biotechnology and materials science.
