MA/MS in Fluid Mechanics

The programme covers topics ranging from ocean currents and waves to blood flow, tsunamis and renewable energy, building skills in mechanics, mathematics and programming alongside practical experience with real problems. Teaching combines development of mathematical models, numerical computation and programming, together with laboratory experiments and fieldwork, and the degree offers two tracks: Fluid Mechanics: Energy, Environment and Safety, and Fluid Mechanics: Biomechanics and Medical Mechanics. Students have the option to study at the University Centre in Svalbard during the third semester, or go on exchange, typically in the second or third semester. The subject is presented as a link between mathematics and physics, offering a possible route into teaching science, and some graduates go on to pursue a doctoral degree.
