The interdisciplinary programme covers branches of information technology such as mobile devices, sensors and robotics, each offering different possibilities for interaction with people, with the option to go deeper into applied areas such as health, services, or energy and environment. Teaching builds competence in the interaction between digital systems and social and human factors, and in how technology can be applied to important societal tasks, feeding into master's thesis work addressing matters like novel interaction methods and technologies, or new ways of working. Five specialisation areas are offered: health information systems in developing countries, IT management, large and complex information systems, interactional design, and system development in organisations. Students choose between a long thesis of 60 credits paired with 60 credits of coursework, or a short thesis of 30 credits paired with 90 credits of coursework, with courses selected in consultation with a supervisor; the thesis is usually carried out at the Department of Informatics but can instead be done at a research institute or a company.
