Overview
The programme builds expertise in constructing secure IT systems, understanding security-technology mechanics, and overseeing information security within organisations, framed against cyber security's status as a national priority area and the GDPR's legal requirements for embedded privacy and security in IT systems. Training covers planning and designing security systems as part of the full design process, from programming and testing through to operation, along with the legal requirements and social and ethical challenges involved in managing information security work. Two tracks are offered: Information Security, covering cryptography, secure information-systems development, information and network security, and security management; and Security in Cyber-Physical Systems, focused on security for systems that monitor and control critical infrastructure such as power plants, water supply and transport networks. The master's thesis topic is chosen according to the student's own interests, and students learn to work independently, plan their own work to deadlines, and collaborate with others on research questions in computer science.
