The first-cycle programme analyses social phenomena, public safety and the workings of institutions responsible for public order. It combines sociology, psychology, pedagogy, criminology and law. Students learn research and analytical methods, the causes of crime and deviant behaviour, and how to work with people facing social exclusion or conflict with the law. Specialisations are criminology and penitentiary sociology, and crime prevention with socio-psychology, chosen after the second semester.
The programme leads to a first-cycle degree and is delivered in a hybrid system. Graduates can work in social research centres, public administration bodies, NGOs, prisons and detention centres, probation teams, and police or city guard services.
