Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers both MA and PhD study in History; this Master's track sits in the School of Social Science and Humanities and trains students in the philosophy of history, historiography, and historical method, alongside archival research across primary and secondary sources tied to the European, Mediterranean, Islamic, and Arab worlds alike, with particular weight given to cultural exchange and the connected histories running between these regions.
The stated aim is to grow a new cohort of Arab historians via cross-disciplinary study centered on modern Arab history, set inside wider Mediterranean, African, and global frames rather than studied in isolation. Candidates build a theoretical grounding in Arab intellectual history and historiography specifically, while developing research methods they can apply to primary-source material drawn from varied national and international archives.
