MA/MS in Computer Science

Cal State LA's Computer Science M.S. gives graduate students several educational and professional routes. It is built to support advancement as a working computer scientist and to lead on to doctoral study. Conditional admission goes to applicants with an undergraduate degree in CS or a near relative and a GPA of 3.0 or above. A GPA from 2.5 up to 2.99 can lead to special action status, where students must hit 3.0 across four qualifying courses the department approves in advance. People coming from other majors, or from CS programs without ABET accreditation, can be assigned prerequisites. Classified students avoid prerequisites numbered under 4000 when using 4000-level courses toward the degree. Thirty units are required, eighteen of them in core courses at the 5000 level. A maximum of six approved post-baccalaureate units taken before classified standing can be applied. A thesis or comprehensive exam completes the culminating experience.
