AA/AS in Sociology

Sociology at Chabot examines human interaction and society, and asks how culture and social institutions affect what people do. Students examine the ways race, class, gender and sexuality affect everyday experience. The department serves a large and varied student body, many of whom take sociology for general education credit, for transfer preparation, or simply out of interest. Courses range from an introduction to the field to gender, family life, minority groups, research methods, social problems, sexuality, Asian American studies, and the experiences of women of color. All courses transfer to CSU and UC and count toward associate degree breadth requirements. An associate transfer degree is available. The department page links to its faculty and contact details, and the catalog contains the curriculum for each award. Program maps show a suggested sequence by term, and requirement pages list courses and electives. Related awards in social science and social justice studies appear on the same page.
