The physics major in the College of Arts and Sciences offers two routes. The inside concentration, made up of core physics courses plus electives from the department, is the main route into physics careers or advanced study in physics and neighboring subjects.
The outside concentration pairs the core with study in another discipline, which suits students aiming at areas such as engineering, medicine, law, finance or education. Students are advised to begin the introductory sequence in their first semester, and admission to the major follows two semesters of physics with suitable mathematics and minimum grade standards.
The BA is administered by College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University and follows the academic standards set for that unit, so students should expect to meet both program and university expectations. Current course lists, degree requirements and academic policies are published in the university catalog, and applicants with questions about eligibility or the application process should contact the department or graduate field directly.
