The Psychology PhD belongs to the psychological sciences and human development field in the Graduate School. Program areas share four interests: development, cognition, neuroscience, and social and personality psychology. Students design an independent course of study with a special committee.
Research facilities include rooms for perception and cognition research, a social psychology laboratory, electrophysiological and chemical labs, and facilities for studying laboratory animals. Computer resources allow experiments to control equipment and support complex data analysis. The special committee is set by the close of the first year, and students are encouraged to include a member from outside psychology. Students gain breadth by choosing committee members from outside the discipline, which the program encourages. A fourth member, chosen by the graduate director, ensures broad training across the field.
