This human anatomy and physiology certificate is a short program in which students study every organ system through three biology courses, one in each quarter, all taught at the Cheney campus. Lectures focus on physiological principles, while weekly laboratory periods concentrate on anatomy.
Lab time is mostly spent dissecting human cadavers and isolated structures, and students learn to identify tissue slides and models for each organ system.
The certificate is meant for people who need advanced physiology knowledge and hands-on dissection experience, such as applicants to professional clinical programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, therapy, pharmacy and related fields, or those interested in teaching. Applicants need a biology or related science bachelor's degree with general chemistry.
The three faculty who teach the sequence have been involved in clinical research and graduate teaching, so students learn from instructors with experience in both teaching and investigation.
