Overview

This associate degree immerses students in American Sign Language and the culture of the d/Deaf community. A sequence of five signing courses develops fluency in a visual language through regular practice with classmates. The capstone requires an interpretive project tied to the student's career goals. The skills apply to interpreting, education and advocacy, and teachers can use them to make classrooms more inclusive. The degree is designed for transfer to a related bachelor's program and for TESOL certification. It totals 61 credit hours and can be taken in person or online. Interested applicants can request information, arrange a campus visit or start an application through the college website. Academic advisors are available to explain course planning, scheduling choices and the options for continuing at another institution, so students can make informed decisions before enrolling in the program.
