PhD in Criminal Justice and Corrections

The doctoral program in criminology and criminal justice at Florida State is aimed at students who want to carry out original research on questions of science and public policy. Training centres on theory, research methods and statistics, and students work alongside an active research faculty. Candidates move through a structured sequence that covers coursework, a comprehensive examination, a major professor and dissertation committee, and finally the dissertation and admission to candidacy. The college publishes a graduate campus handbook, admission requirements and several forms that guide students through each stage. Prospective applicants should review the department's current admission guidance, required documents and timelines before applying. Contacting the program office early is a sensible way to ask about funding, prerequisites and expected progress through the degree, and to confirm which requirements apply to a given entry term.
