Overview

Almost every course in this associate degree puts students in direct contact with animals. A service learning requirement also sends them to local humane societies and shelters as volunteers. Teaching labs are arranged like working veterinary clinics, so learners handle the instruments and equipment used by practicing technicians. A veterinarian with many years of clinical practice leads instruction, and two clinical placements give students time in real animal care settings. The curriculum holds accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association. A veterinary assistant technical diploma is built into the degree and can be completed after one year. The 66-credit program is based at the Elkhorn Campus and accepts students in spring and fall. Graduates can pursue jobs as veterinary technicians, laboratory technicians, or emergency clinic technicians.
