PhD in Computer Science

The doctoral program in computer science at Georgia Tech is for highly capable students aiming at leading roles in universities, companies, and government laboratories. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, each candidate follows a plan of study tailored to their own interests and research direction. That individualized structure means the experience depends heavily on the questions a student chooses to pursue and the faculty who guide that work. Candidates move from advanced coursework toward independent research, culminating in a contribution of their own to the field. Prospective applicants should expect a competitive process and should read the catalog for current requirements on coursework, examinations, and the dissertation. The College of Computing can explain how research areas and advisors are matched with incoming students.
