AA/AS in Area Studies

Global Studies at Golden West College is a transfer-oriented associate program that looks at how the world is interconnected. Coursework draws on several academic disciplines to explain globalization and the forces behind it. Students examine topics including climate change, human rights, inequality, ethnic conflict, migration and worldwide health crises. The curriculum favors hands-on learning, so participants practice analysis and weigh possible responses to current international problems. The program is housed in the Social and Behavioral Sciences division and suits students who want to build leadership and civic skills before continuing at a four-year university. Prospective students can consult the college catalog, the class schedule and the academic calendar, all linked from the department page. They are also encouraged to contact the division office listed there for guidance on course planning, degree requirements and the steps involved in getting started at Golden West College.
