MA/MS in Applied Mathematics

The department of mathematics at Iowa State offers degrees in applied mathematics alongside its degrees in pure mathematics, so students can focus on how mathematical tools are put to use. Both master's and doctoral levels are available. The department also collaborates with several cross-campus graduate programs, including those in bioinformatics, information assurance, ecology and evolutionary biology, and human computer interaction, which gives students chances to apply their training to problems in other disciplines. Applicants submit a statement of purpose, and non-native English speakers need a minimum speaking score on the TOEFL. Neither the GRE nor the GMAT is required. Those hoping to begin in the fall should send applications by the February deadline. International students are advised to apply well before the start of their intended term.
