Overview
This integrative biology master's trains students to tackle complicated biological problems by linking ideas across fields and scales, starting at molecular and cellular scales and reaching organisms, populations and whole ecosystems.
Two departments share responsibility for the degree, so students draw on faculty from both molecular and cellular biology and ecology and evolution. That arrangement opens up varied research opportunities and coursework, and it encourages looking at one question from several angles.
Applicants need a solid base in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, a recommended undergraduate GPA, recommendation letters and a personal statement. Those aiming for the thesis concentration should name faculty whose work matches their interests. Tuition waivers and assistantships may be offered to qualified thesis students. Classes meet in person and begin in the fall.
