Cert in Design and Applied Arts

The Interior Design Certificate prepares students for the profession through classes combined with an internship. Topics include space planning, using currently manufactured products, building codes, materials, color, furniture history and the decorative arts. Students also learn to produce and deliver creative graphic and spoken presentations for residential and commercial clients. Internships span the interior design industry, including studios and retail showrooms around Greater Boston, where students apply AutoCAD, draft by hand and help clients choose materials. Graduates can look for work with design firms, design-build companies, retailers, staging businesses and bath and kitchen showrooms, or launch their own practice. Advisors can talk through continuing into a business associate degree and transfer options.
