AA/AS in Chemistry

Students who plan to continue at a four-year school, or who are aiming for a health-related field, can build their chemistry foundation here. The department covers the opening two years of a chemistry sequence, with a year-long run in general chemistry followed by a year-long run in organic chemistry. Finishing both lets a transfer student arrive at a university with the lower-division chemistry already behind them. Learners headed for allied health or similar paths have lighter options as well: a single-semester introductory class and another single-semester class that blends organic chemistry with biochemistry. The award on offer is an Associate of Science in chemistry. Sections are delivered in person or in a hybrid format. Seven professors staff the department, most based at the Merced campus and one at Los Banos, and each lists scheduled office hours.
