Cert in Carpenters

Carpentry apprentices in this program divide their time between classroom sessions and paid work on job sites. They learn alongside journeyman carpenters across homes, stores, offices and factories. Classroom topics include construction safety, blueprint reading and an introduction to green building and energy conservation methods. Work tasks often involve forming concrete and framing with wood and metal, both inside and outdoors. Moraine Park cautions that carpentry is demanding physical labor, with regular climbing, squatting and time on one's feet, and that safety goggles and hard hats are routine equipment. The classroom portion is in West Bend. Apprentices skip the college's usual admissions process and apply via the Wisconsin chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors instead. The mix of paid work and instruction means apprentices earn while they learn the trade, and the supervision of experienced carpenters shapes how they develop on site.
