Overview

Based in Tandon's department of chemical and biomolecular engineering, this master's degree responds to an expanding industry with reach into farming, medicine and environmental remediation. Coursework ranges from industrial enzyme applications and polymer synthesis to current drug design and the part biotechnology plays in health care. Students also take laboratory-based advanced courses in cell and molecular biology and in genetic engineering, and a wide choice of electives permits specialization. Two project courses combined may count as research on par with a master's thesis. New York offers research and internship placements, including at NYU Langone and Memorial Sloan Kettering. The degree requires thirty credits, and graduates must hold an overall grade point average of at least 3.0.
