Overview

The PhD in Biomedical Engineering brings together faculty from Tandon engineering and the medical school, with associated faculty from across NYU. Students carry out research on new engineering approaches that improve human health, such as imaging devices and medical data analysis using artificial intelligence. Doctoral students gain the skills to lead the field in laboratories run by leading authorities. An optional doctoral track in urban science lets students add that focus to their degree, and some may choose a research adviser at NYU Abu Dhabi. A bachelor's in biomedical engineering or a neighbouring discipline is generally expected. Admission depends on academic excellence, matching research interests and strong recommendations. GRE scores are optional, and faculty may interview viable candidates. The NYU Bulletin page for this degree sets out the course list with credit values and a sample plan of study, so prospective students can see how the requirements fit together before they apply.
