Overview

This graduate certificate trains students to serve families, parents and fellow professionals in two roles, educator and coach. Educators provide preventive, research-based programs that strengthen family life, while coaches partner with clients to set goals and develop healthy relationships. Three required courses cover parenting and family life education, family communication and coaching, and family life coaching. Students then pick one elective from topics such as family theory, family relationships across the life course, resource management, complex family issues, human sexuality, youth program evaluation, child development or professional ethics and policy. The twelve-credit program can be finished fully online. Applicants need either a four-year degree with a solid cumulative grade average or current standing as a graduate student at the university.
