American Studies at Purdue West Lafayette is an interdisciplinary graduate program awarding the doctorate and a master of arts. A non-degree route is also available.
Applicants submit transcripts, recommendation letters, a statement of purpose, a personal history statement, a curriculum vitae and a writing sample. The sample should be a scholarly English paper running past 2,500 words, and the program prefers letters from people who can speak to the applicant's academic training and potential.
Master's and doctoral candidates both need a cumulative average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Admission is for fall only, with a single January cutoff.
Prospective students can contact the program office by email or phone using the details on the graduate admissions page. The program website gives further information about faculty, research areas and what to expect from the course of study, and applicants should read it before submitting an application.
