This is a graduate certificate offered through the research center for African American studies at Purdue West Lafayette. It is an interdisciplinary credential rather than a stand-alone degree.
Only students already admitted to a graduate program in one of several partner departments may enroll, across the humanities and social sciences, such as history, English and political science. Applicants complete the online application, send transcripts, write a statement of purpose and a personal history statement, and file a registration form signed by their major adviser and home department head.
A cumulative undergraduate average of 3.0 is expected. Applications are accepted for fall, spring and summer starts, each with its own cutoff date.
Prospective students can contact the program office by email or phone using the details on the graduate admissions page. The program website gives further information about faculty, research areas and what to expect from the course of study, and applicants should read it before submitting an application.
