Overview

Rockland Community College grants an Associate of Science in Legal Studies through its business and professional studies school. The degree readies students for entry-level paralegal work in the legal field, always under attorney supervision. The American Bar Association's Standing Committee on Paralegals has approved both this program and the related Paralegal Studies certificate. Students must take specialty law courses in a classroom or live synchronous setting, and most credits have to be earned at RCC. The college clarifies that paralegals are not licensed and cannot serve the public directly unless the law allows it. Microcredentials in Criminal Justice Fundamentals and Firefighter and Emergency Services I are also listed. The college positions its programs around local employer needs and describes its tuition as affordable, with advisors, mentors and counselors available to help students plan their route from first semester to graduation.
