PhD in Registered Nursing, Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing

The Nursing Science PhD prepares researchers who move nursing and health care forward by means of scientific discovery. Alumni become independent investigators, direct clinical research programs, hold senior academic posts and influence national health policy. The program admits a limited number of applicants so each can work closely with a faculty research mentor. Nurses with a bachelor's or master's degree may apply, as may non-nurses with a postgraduate qualification in a health-related discipline. Study is online, full-time or part-time, and takes four to five years. Students visit the Chicago campus for orientation and for intensive summer sessions during the following three years, and they complete practica matched to their interests.
