The literature concentration in English at Seattle Pacific University centers on close attention to how people use language and cultural signs. Students read and interpret literature, film and other cultural works from many periods and communities, asking questions about race, class, gender, faith and truth.
The curriculum builds critical thinking, interpretation, argument and intercultural skills within a Christian framework. Graduates move toward careers in publishing, marketing, digital media, the creative arts, education, library science, law, social advocacy and other fields.
The major requires a minimum of 65 credits, with 30 at the upper-division level. Students need a C- or better in every course applied to the major and should meet regularly with a faculty advisor. Advisors help students track progress, and requirements follow the catalog edition from the year the student joined the major, which keeps expectations stable.
