This St. John Fisher University master's degree in inclusive adolescence teaching leads to dual certification for teaching adolescents. Graduates can obtain first-time certification to teach a chosen subject in grades 7 to 12, may add a middle school extension, and are certified as generalist teachers of students with disabilities.
Subject options are biology, chemistry and earth science, along with English, math, physics, social studies and world languages. The program is open to graduates of any bachelor's level major, so applicants do not need an education background.
Full-time students follow a curriculum spread over five semesters that pairs study of what inclusive education means with teaching methods for the chosen subject. Clinical experience hours and a period of student teaching are built into the plan, giving candidates time in real classrooms before they graduate.
