This cybersecurity degree teaches students how to judge the protection needs of computers and networks, recommend defenses, and oversee the tools and procedures that keep those systems running safely. The subject matter ranges from machine-level design and programming to networking, telecommunications, encryption, connected devices, legal requirements, contingency planning and forensic techniques.
The program aligns with outcomes set by the computing accreditation body of ABET. Graduates should be able to break down computing problems, design and test solutions, communicate in professional settings, act on ethical and legal duties, contribute as team members or leaders, and apply security practice when threats are present.
Each student completes the university core curriculum, a run of computing courses within the degree, and science support classes such as physics.
Programming and systems coursework comes first, giving students a technical base before specialized security topics.
