Overview

This history degree, available as a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, trains students in the discipline of history. It introduces the human past and the nature of historical change, and it teaches students to evaluate scholarship about history and to put their conclusions into clear prose. This emphasis is meant for students not pursuing a teaching license. It can lead toward graduate study in history or toward careers in public history, heritage preservation or government work. Graduates should understand historiography and be able to write thesis-driven papers using suitable sources. The plan includes the core curriculum, required courses in the major and a large block of electives. A C or higher is needed in required history courses, and some of the history hours must be taken at the university itself.
