Overview

This bachelor's major at Boston University's College of Arts & Sciences studies how societies have changed across time. Students learn to weigh evidence that is often incomplete or conflicting, shape interpretations from it, and communicate their arguments clearly in writing. The curriculum centers on twelve four-unit courses. A core methodology course, The Historian's Craft, is usually taken in the sophomore year, and two seminars are required as well. Distribution rules ask majors to range across different regions and eras. Much of the university-wide Hub general education framework is met through major coursework, with the rest completed through electives or cocurricular activities. Graduates are prepared for work in teaching, law, business, publishing and media.
