Overview

This consumer sciences master's degree is a thirty-credit-hour program with two concentration areas. Consumer Economics applies microeconomics to consumer choices at home, in policy and in markets and prepares students for doctoral study or research roles, with a thesis required. Family Financial Planning and Counseling targets careers in financial planning, meets the education requirement for the CFP certification exam, and also fulfils the requirement for the Accredited Financial Counselor exam. That concentration ends with a capstone project. Core courses include research methods, and applicants follow the Graduate School admission criteria. Students planning for certification should confirm exam eligibility with the department. Course lists, academic policies and admission criteria are published in the university's online catalog, and prospective students should read them alongside the department's own guidance before applying.
