The Doctor of Social Work serves experienced professional social workers who want to grow as advanced practitioners and leaders in underserved communities. The program emphasizes fairness in social and economic life, pursued through service, advocacy, instruction and scholarship, and aims to develop specialist expertise, leadership ability and fresh approaches for complex social challenges.
Students complete coursework that includes a comprehensive paper after the second summer and then a capstone project under a committee in the third year. Courses are mostly asynchronous with a handful of synchronous evening sessions per course, with dates released two months before each term.
Participants attend one orientation plus two summer residencies on campus. A focus area is selected when they begin but does not appear on the official transcript.
