The Journalism major prepares students to report, write, and think critically about the news media. Coursework examines how political, economic, cultural, and social forces shape the information that reaches the public. Students build independence in reporting and learn to gather facts through interviews, observation, and public records. Assignments stress creativity alongside careful evaluation of sources, which prepares graduates for newsroom, communications, and public-interest work across many settings and communities.
Study also covers the legal foundations that govern the press, including constitutional principles, case law, and international norms. Ethical reasoning runs through the curriculum, with attention to truth, accuracy, fairness, and service to communities with different backgrounds. Students graduate with the quantitative skills needed to interpret polling and statistical data.
