The psychology major introduces students to the basic subject matter of psychology and to the research methods used to study thought, emotion and behavior. It supports many career goals, including clinical psychology, counseling, social work, consulting, behavioral research, college teaching, business, law and medicine.
Students can earn credit through an internship that places them with a working professional. The department offers several options on top of the major. An honors thesis program provides advanced research methods and data analysis courses over three semesters plus a supervised thesis. A clinical and counseling area of focus gives hands-on experience through small classes and internships.
Accelerated routes let students begin graduate work early, one in psychological science and one in human resource development, applying graduate units toward the undergraduate degree. Advising resources are available on a dedicated website, and degree requirements are in the Undergraduate Catalog.
