The Art + Design major lets students make a body of creative work while finding a personal aesthetic and a professional direction. Students choose from several concentrations and areas of study that match their interests and career plans.
Concentrations include interdisciplinary object design, metalsmithing and jewelry, ceramics and a fine arts track covering drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Digital Art + Design, Graphic Design and Illustration are offered only as a BFA, while other areas may lead to a BFA, BS or BA. All students complete foundation courses in design, drawing and art history, and concentrations add a second foundation level. Screening is required for every BFA program.
The department supplies some bulk materials and tools, but students buy their own art supplies and safety equipment, and some courses require textbooks. The Center for the Arts Gallery supports student learning through exhibitions.
