Overview

Biological Sciences at UIC awards a Master of Science and also a doctorate. Research strengths include cell biology, genetics, ecology, evolution, plant biology, neurobiology, and molecular studies. Master's students enter a department where lab and field research reach across the life sciences, so each can build expertise in the area closest to personal interest. Doctoral students who qualify may join an interdepartmental neuroscience concentration, a sign of how closely the department works with neighbors on campus. The degree fits students who want stronger training in current biology, whether to prepare for doctoral study or to deepen research experience for a career in the life sciences. Before applying, prospective students can browse the department's pages to learn what faculty study and to judge where their own interests fit.
