The master's degrees in materials science and engineering come from an interdisciplinary graduate program and prepare motivated students for industry careers. Students can take coursework, receive instrument and equipment training and conduct original research in modern shared laboratories.
Two routes exist. The thesis route combines classes, thesis research and seminar attendance, while the non-thesis route replaces research with an internship with an employer or independent study under an affiliated faculty member.
Deadlines depend on the route. The accelerated combined degree and non-thesis students apply by two dates for spring and summer or fall entry, and thesis students have their own dates. Applications go through the Graduate School and the program pages.
Prospective applicants should review the department's own materials on faculty interests, degree rules and funding, then submit their materials through the Graduate School. Early contact with the department helps candidates judge fit before they apply.
