MA/MS in Economics

The Applied Economics MA is a research-focused, STEM-designated program that stresses hands-on applied economic research and analysis. It is taught in person. Students study both mainstream and alternative theory and learn applied techniques including econometrics, surveys, mapping with GIS and data analysis. Graduate assistantships offer work supporting teaching or research. The training points graduates toward economics, finance, policy or research jobs and supports later doctoral study. UMass Boston is an urban public research university in Boston, and graduate students in this program learn alongside a diverse community of peers. Faculty mentorship, close contact with practitioners and researchers, and the resources of the surrounding city support students as they advance their careers or continue to further study.
