Cert in Publishing

The undergraduate certificate in editing and publishing is offered through the English department at the University of Minnesota. Coursework covers many types of publishing, from social media and corporate communications to books and magazines. It also introduces publishing-adjacent work in media organizations, foundations, and government agencies. Students gain relevant work experience while building practical skills for a competitive field. Students take two English courses, one on editing and publishing and one on the business of the field, taught by industry professionals. A practical experiential component is required and can be met through a production course, an internship, or another approved professional experience. Completion is recorded on the final transcript, and students declare the certificate after an advising appointment with English Undergraduate Studies.
