PGCert in Area Studies

This graduate certificate in East Asian area studies allows USC graduate students to document a particular regional competence in East Asian studies on top of what their own discipline demands. Only students who are enrolled in an advanced degree in the Graduate School or in a professional school are eligible. Earning it involves four courses carrying graduate credit in East Asian studies, which may come from any department, and an oral examination covering three research papers and related coursework. Students must also have a grounding in East Asian history and a significant stretch of East Asian language study. Each person plans a course of study with an interdisciplinary committee of three members, and the center's director must approve that committee. The catalogue page has the authoritative statement of the conditions, so students should consult it before enrolling.
