PGCert in Library Science and Administration

Librarians in schools lead their communities in using technology, building information literacy and staying current with new books. They also guide learners through research and reading, the ethical handling of sources and careful thinking. Milwaukee provides four separate routes for candidates seeking Wisconsin's School Library Media Specialist certification, known as license 1902. Having several pathways lets people with different backgrounds and schedules choose the arrangement that suits them. The certificate is delivered by the School of Information Studies and targets teachers and other professionals who plan to staff a school library or media center. Completing the sequence prepares candidates to meet the state's licensing requirements and to serve as instructional partners to classroom teachers, supporting reading programs and research projects across the curriculum.
