Overview

The biology major at Utica University covers life science from the molecular scale up to whole ecosystems, with a strong emphasis on practical learning through laboratory work, fieldwork and research alongside faculty. Each student receives individual advising to help shape a path toward medicine, biotechnology, environmental science, conservation or teaching. Research is built into the program from the first year. Students practise designing their own projects, analysing data and presenting results, and many share their findings at scientific conferences or in peer-reviewed journals. A senior research course lets students carry out original work under a faculty mentor. Those who reach the required grade average in their biology courses can graduate with honors in the major. Students aiming for medical, veterinary or dental school also receive guidance from a committee focused on the health professions.
