The Master of Arts in Anthropology gives students grounding in several fields, including cultural and linguistic anthropology along with biological and archaeological work. Specializations include historical archaeology, museum studies, medical anthropology, urban anthropology, and land-use studies.
Training combines classroom experiences with student-developed research that strengthens theoretical and methodological expertise. Students examine how societies produce goods and power, shape kinship and gender, and build environments. Those skills apply to a wide variety of research settings.
Coursework addresses climate change, health, aging, human and environmental issues, and the evolution of primates. Students also see how archaeological excavation reveals changes over the deep human past. Students can access a graduate handbook and advising through the department. Students learn to interpret human societies through multiple lenses at once.
