Program details

Overview

West Valley College offers an Associate in Arts in Anthropology for students who plan to move on to a four-year university and continue in the discipline. The coursework builds a base in the study of human biology, past societies, and living cultures. The major combines required classes in physical anthropology and archaeology with a choice between standard and honors cultural anthropology. Students then select electives that may include linguistic anthropology and magic, witchcraft and religion as anthropological topics, and they can also draw on options from nearby social science fields. To earn the degree, students finish the major with at least a C grade and complete either the college general education pattern or Cal-GETC, along with enough degree-applicable units to reach the sixty-unit total. Cal-GETC is recommended for anyone aiming at a bachelor's degree.
