BA/BS in Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology

This meteorology degree is presented as the earliest and biggest program of its kind in Kentucky or Tennessee that satisfies the federal civil service standard for jobs at the National Weather Service. It also allows future television meteorologists to begin the American Meteorological Society's broadcast certification process right after graduation. Students combine advanced theory with applied coursework, work with weather instruments and computer programming. This mix prepares graduates for jobs as working meteorologists straight away and also supports those who want to go on to postgraduate work studying the atmosphere. Students also take courses in programming and instrumentation, giving them technical skills that employers value. Undergraduates are encouraged to join faculty research projects, which increases their chances of co-authoring published articles and presenting findings at professional meetings and conferences.
