Overview
The teaching credential program prepares future elementary and secondary teachers within a Christian liberal arts setting. Candidates may pursue the multiple subject path for elementary classrooms or the single subject path for secondary classrooms.
Students move through together as a cohort, taking classes during autumn and doing classroom placements in spring. Faculty members bring experience from K-12 schools, and candidates observe and teach in a variety of local schools.
The credential can be combined with a bachelor's degree in about four or five years with careful planning. Secondary candidates usually major in a teachable subject such as English, mathematics, the sciences, music, art or Spanish. A separate residency option runs alongside the local Santa Barbara school district.
Applications for the next cohort open in the fall, and a program handbook and flyer are available online. The program has been recognized by an external education honor.
