MA/MS in Applied Mathematics

This master of science prepares students to apply mathematics to difficult problems across many fields, including industry, business, engineering, science and computer science. Emphasis falls on the applications currently in highest demand. The program is selective and takes in few students each year, which keeps classes small and allows personal interaction with faculty researchers and mentors. Students may enroll for full-time or part-time study and can shape the program around their interests and career aims. Advanced coursework provides broad grounding in mathematics, with particular attention to optimization, numerical methods, scientific computing, discrete mathematics, modeling and mathematical biology. Electives let students apply that knowledge to a chosen area, for example computer science, mechanical engineering, bioinformatics or data science. Studies end with a thesis or project based on research, which can be carried out in cooperation with one of the university's industrial partners.
